CFC Storehouse
Food Pantry
The CFC Storehouse has been the largest food provider for the needy in the Hartford/Tolland county for nine years, distributing over 900,000 pounds of food to feed the hungry from its soup kitchen and food pantry in 2011.
The CFC Storehouse Food Pantry distributes free groceries to over 980 registered families. Every Wednesday volunteers distribute groceries packed on Tuesdays, providing a well balanced variety of nutritious food such as: frozen meat, fresh fruits, vegetables, canned goods, pasta, breads, pastries and much more. Recipients usually leave with at least 11 bags of groceries. The bags are packed generously and personally handed out by our volunteers to the families who come to receive from the Food Pantry. Volunteers also assist clients with bringing their bags to their car or if the client is on foot, the volunteers assist to bring their groceries outside. The CFC Storehouse Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and registration is required. A photo I.D. and income verification is necessary to register.
Most of the food is obtained from Foodshare of Bloomfield, Connecticut, through monies received from monthly partners, donations, grants, and fundraisers. Additional food is donated by local supermarkets, food distributors, food drives and individual contributions. In 1999, the CFC Storehouse Food Pantry distributed over 28,800 bags of groceries and in the year 2011, that number grew to 436,061. Every year, there has been a continued increase in the amount of clients served, with 2010 being the largest increase ever due to the struggling economy.
